Our ability to make art, while maybe not uniquely human, has been used to create some of the most interesting, thought-provoking, and beautiful pieces of media throughout history. For as long as I remember, I’ve been enthralled by the details that can be portrayed and understood by others in both the creation and consumption of art. But as I get older, I see more and more people trending towards consuming more and more. I think it’s our place as humans and artists to maintain that balance of exercising our right to create while appreciating the creation of others.

My Thoughts on Art

While I know some people know me as an artist, I think the majority of people know me as a chef, scientist, or enthusiast of media, to name a few hobbies. But what I love most about the “arts” is just how easy it is to create something meaningful. I see so many people who let the elitism of art get into their heads. High-quality materials can work better and last longer; that doesn’t mean that you can’t create something extraordinary out of completely ordinary things. Most of my drawings are on computer paper with BIC ballpoint pens, and my paintings are all old paint I’ve had in my cupboards for over a decade. This collection of media is a selection of drawings, paintings, wood projects, clay sculptures, recipes, and even functional art like clothing, bags, glassware, and software.

Why do I Create?
